Strategies For Writing - To- Learn and Learning- To-Write
Here are some of the strategies, we will use throughout the school year.
Writing- To- Learn Strategies
Journals
Journals are a great way for students to explore their learning. Journals can be done several different ways. In our class, each student will receive his/ her own journal. At first journaling will be simple pictures, but as the year progresses students will begin writing words than full sentences.
Free Writing
Students can use their journals to free write. This may occur after large school events or after the weekend. Students may also be asked to free write on a particular word or topic.
Exit Slips
Students will receive what we call an exit slip at the end of certain lesson. Exit slips contain particular questions that allow students to reflect on class material. These are also used for the teacher to ensure students have learnt subject matter.
